By bike on the Francigena – Itinerary

The Francigena cycling path, recognized as EV5 (Eurovelo), is the most important Tuscan route and crosses the whole province of Siena from north to south, constituting the main axis of the network of cycle routes in the Sienese territory.
The route winds, from San Gimignano and San Casciano dei Bagni, with the appendix of Proceno in the upper Lazio, through different types of roads: secondary roads with low traffic, dirt roads, cycle paths, paths and paved urban stretches.
Travelling the more than 170 km that divide San Gimignano from Proceno, in a single stage, is particularly challenging, so it is advisable to organize the trip by dividing it on several stages, taking as a reference the accommodation facilities located along the route, where the cyclist can find services dedicated to his needs.
