Strade di Siena > Via Lauretana by bike | > Itinerario
The current route of the ancient Via Lauretana cycle path that leads from Siena to Cortona follows a part of the path for hikers recognized as one of the «Tuscan Paths» and allows you to connect to the Via Francigena and the Sentiero della Bonifica.
The detours, compared to the Via Lauretana “on foot” route, have been designed to allow cyclists to make the most of this wonderful track, along which short asphalted stretches and stretches of dirt road alternate, some even quite challenging. In particular, the stretch that leads from Sinalunga to Montepulciano and then heads towards Cortona has been studied in order to avoid the roads affected by a discrete flow of motorized traffic.
Six are the stages proposed with bike points located in the most important locations. Although it is possible to make the trip in just one day, it is advisable to plan it in two or three days to enjoy with the right calm the countless historical and landscape beauties that you encounter along the way.
